====== Qool Labs ====== Based in Singapore. Name is stylised as Qoo! CEO: Mr. K.H. Lim Sales Manager: Mr. W. Helm ===== Qool QDA-700 ===== This device was announced in September for 2004, and with a release slated for November 2004 in Asia and Europe. Commercial units were shipped across EMEA, but it was not released in large numbers. Sold for 469€ in Germany. Qool collaborated with [[:devices/pitech|PiTech]] for design [1], the QDA-700 was "based on the smartphone platform developed by PiTech"[2]. The front of the device features a hinged screen cover, that springs open when pressing a side button. While the appearance of the device was well regarded as stylish, the device was quite thick, and the hinged screen cover unwieldy and inconvenient. The absence of bluetooth and wifi also did not help position the product well to compete with the Palm Treo - which also featured a full qwerty keyboard. In addition, the QVGA resolution was uncommon in Palm OS devices, and was poorly supported by 3rd party software. Reviews and user experiences indicated several deficiencies: - the strange screen resolution resulted in 3rd part software incompatibilities - the 5-way navigator was also poorly implemented for device navigation - the MP3 player volume was soft - the screen was dim and hard to see in direct sunlight - the device software was not stable - battery life was poor - Customer support was also regarded as poor ===== Reviews ===== * [4] [[https://mobile-review.com/pda/review/qool-qda700-en.shtml|Mobile-Review.com]] * [5] [[http://tech.sina.com.cn/mobile/n/2006-08-21/14021095549.shtml|Tech Sina]] * [6] [[http://www.brighthand.com/phonereview/qool-qda-700-review/|Brighthand]] * [7] [[https://www.thaimobilecenter.com/focus/mobile_review/qool_qda_700_review.html| ThaiMobileCentre]] ===== Specifications ===== This was a tri-band (900/1800/1900mhz) GSM device, and featured a 2.8" QVGA (240x320) colour LCD, 32MB of RAM, 1.3MP camera, IR, and an SD card slot, including support for SDIO WiFi cards. * Size: 57.7 x 103.5 x 24 mm * Weight: 139g * OS: Garnet 5.4 * Bands: GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz * CPU: i.MXL 200MHz * Display: 71 mm (2.8") QVGA (240x320) {{:devices:qool1.jpg?250|}} {{:devices:qool2.jpg?250|}} {{:devices:qool3.jpg?250|}} {{:devices:qool4.jpg?250|}} {{:devices:qool5.jpg?250|}} {{:devices:qool6_1_.jpg?direct&250|}} {{:devices:qool6_2_.jpg?direct&250|}} {{:devices:qool6_3_.jpg?direct&250|}} {{:devices:qool6_4_.jpg?direct&250|}} {{:devices:qool6_5_.jpg?direct&250|}} {{:devices:qool_qda_smartphone.jpg?direct&250|}} ===== References ===== * [1] [[https://www.pitech.com/about-us]] * [2] [[http://www.palminfocenter.com/news/7553/qool-qda700-smartphone-up-close/]] * [3] [[https://web.archive.org/web/20050119092018/http://www.mobinaute.com/mobinaute/article.php?id=20040928124012]] * [4] [[https://mobile-review.com/pda/review/qool-qda700-en.shtml]] * [5] [[http://tech.sina.com.cn/mobile/n/2006-08-21/14021095549.shtml|Tech Sina]] * [6] [[http://www.brighthand.com/phonereview/qool-qda-700-review/]] * [7] [[https://www.thaimobilecenter.com/focus/mobile_review/qool_qda_700_review.html]] * [8] [[https://blog.treonauts.com/2004/09/new_treo_cousin.html]]
