Anyone who lived through the 2000's tech era, probably knows the many hot Sony devices that defined the age. The Sony PSP games console. The Song Ericsson T68i – the first colour wap enabled phone, the Sony Ericsson k850i – the first phone with a real point-and-shoot quality camera, and the Sony Ericsson P800 smartphone. Over in PalmOS land, the two devices that stood out during this time were the Sony Clie PEG-NZ90, and the Sony Clie PEG-UX50. The UX50 was both a beauty and a marvel of engineering, fitting a full 320×480 “hi-res” display, a state-of-the-art SoC CPU, a VGA camera, WiFi, MemoryStick slot, and a full QWERTY thumb-board, into a pocketable device. Oh, and with a full flip+rotate screen too.

These devices today are still collected by those afflicted with technolust. But there was one more that never made it to the light of day, until now. The Sony Clie UX70H. This was essential a UX50, with an additional cellular radio built-in, to enable wireless internet, email, and phone calls on the go, just like a proper smartphone. The device can be seen in the photos below with a wireless antenna sticking out the side, and with different icons found on the device's buttons.

While this device was never commercially released, it appears to have reached a late stage of production, with the device featuring PVT markings on the sticker found where the serial number should have been. However, this device seems to have the front marketing sticker from a PEG-UX50 device, and the gun-metal case colour of the WiFi-less PEG-UX40, with no mention of the additional wireless features. It could well be, that the device was also WiFi-less, with the removal of the WiFi chipset making way for the space required to add the wireless modem – however this is all speculation.
